ENGINEERING

It is not without reason that the creation of Palm Jumeirah has been compared to the building of the Pyramids or the Great Wall of China. The statistics are breathtaking.

Prior to the commencement of building there were three years of planning involving 42 consulting firms and over 50 studies that ensured the feasibility of every aspect, including the social and environmental implications.

During the height of the project, 10 dredgers worked simultaneously, along with tug boats, barges and launches. More than 1,000 people were on site, and many of the dredger workforce lived on board their ships through the two year project.

Even though it would have been easier to use steel and concrete, the islands are built on sand and rock.

The resulting construction, Palm Jumeirah, is five km from tip to mainland and is visible from space.
